Largest Day Old Bread Outlet Stores Directory

Day old bread stores are beacons of low cost beauty. Inside, the stores smell like bread. Baked good prices usually start at less than half the retail price, and that’s before a store’s additional discounts and deals.

Day old bread stores have been around for years. We were surprised when we started looking for a list of all the bread outlet stores in the United States. There is no list, which is why we wrote this story. It brings together links for more than 1,000 bread stores across the United States.

Other than using day old bread as fresh bread, here are some other uses for day old bread:

This directory does not list all the day old bread stores. We are looking for more all the time. Pepperidge Farms has no nationwide published list. Same story for Sara Lee. The Flowers Foods, Inc. 2008 annual report states it has 249 bakery outlets in its distribution area from Arizona to Florida and up the east coast, but this New York Stock Exchange traded company does not list store locations. Flowers makes, among other brands, Sunbeam, Nature’s Own, Cobblestone Mills, ButterKrust, Whitewheat, Blue Bird and Mrs. Freshley’s snack cakes and pastries, and Mi Casa tortillas. Perhaps Flowers can follow the lead of its recently purchased Holsum group in Arizona. That company lists its six outlets and includes an online coupon for each outlet store.

There also is no one stop shop for bread discount coupons. When we find them, you also get links and how to instructions to get discount coupons. For any coupon links or directory listings you don’t see here, please send links to bread@gnivas.com.

This outlet directory gives you the corporate names behind the products, so you can find brands inside a store where you may not expect them. The storefront doesn’t have to say Entenmann’s on the front to have Entenmann’s on the inside, or Sunbeam, Oroweat, or Boboli — get these brands and lots more.

The bread store is not just a white bread existence. Whole wheat, rolls, whole grain, raisin, cinnamon, tortillas, cookies, pies, cupcakes, snack treats, chips — if the bakery running the store has a license to make the product, or if its drivers handle a product on a delivery route, chances are you’ll find it at the store. You can also get the usual suspects of bread spreads like mustard, catsup, jelly and jams.

As with all the directories and store lists we provide on gnvias.com, please call a location before you go. We cannot guarantee a store is still in the same location or that it has the same hours as listed on a web site.

To maximize your bread store shopping experience, find the deals inside the stores. Ask about other ways to lower your cost. Student discounts, military discounts, senior day, manager’s specials, frequent shopper punch cards, free premium loaf for each $6 purchase — The discounting does not stop at the shelf.

Bakery Outlet Stores

Interstate Bakeries Corporation–Interstate has 740 baking outlets across the United States, according to its most recent annual report filed May 31, 2008. This bakery outlet locator lets you locate stores by ZIP code within a 5 to 50 mile range for the country’s biggest baker. Interstate’s most famous brands are Hostess Twinkies and Wonder Bread. It also makes Dolly Madison, Home Pride, Butternut, and Drake’s. Through licensing agreements, it bakes Sunbeam, Sun-Maid, and Roman Meal. For a longer and more extensive list of Interstate name brands, click here.

George Weston Bakeries–Like Interstate, this group is better known by its brand names than its corporate name. George Weston makes Entenmann’s, Boboli, Arnold, Brownberry, Thomas’, Freihoffer’s and Stroehmann. The Canadian public company divides its bread distribution and licensing between two companies. Most items are sold across the United States from its US headquarters in Pennsylvania. This is the best Weston Bakeries outlet locator for those parts of the nation where Weston bakes and distributes products. The service is another ZIP code search engine that returns a list of locations up to 25 miles away.

Where Weston is not the distributor (roughly from Louisiana to Missouri, then west to California and up the Pacific Coast), it licenses product names and manufacturing to Bimbo Bakeries, USA, the American arm of Mexico’s Grupo Bimbo SAop. If you type in a ZIP code and it comes back with no hits on the Weston site, try the search option for retail stores styled “Where can I find my favorite product?” Use that link for searching, and you will probably get back a message saying contact Bimbo Bakeries in Fort Worth. Rather than contact U. S. headquarters, go to the Bimbo Bakeries site.

Expect to see changes to the Weston outlet locator sites. On December 10, 2008, Weston and Bimbo announced Bimbo is buying the fresh baked line of Weston’s American operations. The $2.38 billion deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2009. This ownership change will probably lead to a nationwide listing of all Weston outlet sites along the lines of Bimbo’s current easier locator that lets you choose by state and city.

Bimbo Bakeries and Mrs. Baird’s–Bimbo Bakeries USA is the American affiliate of Grupo Bimbo, the world’s third largest bakery products manufacturer. As news stories about the bakery are quick to point out, the word “bimbo” is simply a name in Spanish, not a negative connotation. In addition to the Weston brands like Entenmann’s and the others mentioned under the Weston Bakeries heading, Bimbo also makes Oroweat, Mrs. Baird’s, Francisco, Tia Rosa tortilla products, Marinela snack cakes, and Bimbo breads in its 14 American bakeries. The Bimbo Bakery outlets site boasts 193 locations in the Southwest and Pacific Coast regions. This locator is one of the most user friendly search sites. Rather than search by ZIP code, The Bimbo Bakeries’ search engine lets you pick a state, then a city, then drill down to a Mapquest map for specific location. If you want to search only Mrs. Baird’s sites in Texas, Oklahoma or Kanas, here’s the Mrs. Baird’s store locator site. It lets you search by ZIP, city or state. If you’re looking for the most outlets though, the Bimbo site has more stores (it owns more than just Mrs. Baird’s bakeries) in Texas, with more than 90 outlets compared to its 79 Mrs. Baird’s locations.

Flowers Foods, Inc–As much as we would like to include a link to this company’s 249 outlet stores, we can’t find a list. The company recently purchased the Holsum bread company of Arizona. While the Holsum Arizona outlet stores site lists only six locations, that’s six more than its corporate parent. Flower’s recent acquisition of the Florida ButterKrust bakeries gives it the ButterKrust outlet list of seven stores. It’s not a fancy list, but at least it’s a list.

Franz Family Bakeries–In business since 1906, Franz has 48 outlet stores spread across northern California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho. The Franz outlet stores website is the easiest to navigate and the most intuitive. Pick a state and you get cities on the left and a Google map on the right, spotted with Franz outlet locations. Drill down by city or map, and there’s an address, phone number, and a place to enter a starting address and get driving directions. The company offers a full line of breads, rolls, sweets, and other baked products.
